So many of us relate to the feeling of needing to hide our periods. Our community shared that nearly 60% have felt judged when disclosing they are on their period, and nearly 70% have felt the need to hide their period at some point, whether that’s sneaking a pad up a sleeve, staying silent about symptoms, or feeling pressured to be discreet. This isn’t just a habit; it’s a reflection of the stigma that surrounds periods, making too many of us feel like we have something to conceal.
This stigma creates stressful and awkward moments—worrying about leaks, feeling embarrassed when buying period products, or struggling to talk openly about period struggles. It has a real impact, as over 35% of our community said period stigma has affected their self-esteem or confidence. It shouldn’t be this way.
Our mission is to challenge shame and stigma every single day. But for International Women’s Day, we’re releasing a bold PSA: 📢 We have “Nothing to Hide”. Periods are natural, and it’s time to break the silence, challenge the stigma, and create a world where open, shame-free discussions are the norm.
To celebrate this day of action, we’ve teamed up with one of our favourite illustrators, Jemima Ruby, to launch an exclusive downloadable poster for workplaces, schools, and any environment that reminds us of the negative impact of period stigma. Plus, inspired by our community, we’re bringing to life real moments where we face period stigma head-on through powerful illustrations for social media, which are included below if you want to share and join our campaign. 💜
Alongside this, we’ve partnered with menstrual cycle awareness advocate and Founder of Bleed on It, Robyn Wilton, to create a new guide for Line Managers, designed to help them foster a supportive, shame-free space for employees to manage their periods at work. All members of our Period Positive Workplace Scheme will gain access to this exclusive resource.
It’s time to change the conversation around periods – starting now. Keep up to date with us on socials to see how we’re tackling taboos this International Women’s Day and beyond. Together, we can break the stigma and create a world where no one feels the need to hide. ✨
